Why You Might Be a Good Fit for Brachioplasty

Brachioplasty is a thoughtful choice for those whose arms could use a little help to look their best. It’s often chosen by people who’ve experienced significant weight loss and are left with stretched or hanging skin, or by individuals noticing a loss of skin elasticity over time. It may also be included in your treatment plan for upper body lift surgery, or as a complement to the work of a thigh lift procedure.

Whatever your reason, we’ll guide you through the process with care, helping you determine if arm lift surgery aligns with your goals, lifestyle, and long-term vision for your body.

Alberta’s Most Common Questions About Arm Lift Surgery

Arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, is designed to reshape and tone the upper arm by removing excess skin and tightening underlying tissue. After making a discreet incision—typically along the inner arm—your surgeon carefully removes loose skin and may also contour the area for a smoother, more defined appearance.

The procedure is tailored to your anatomy and goals, so whether you’re looking for subtle refinement or a more dramatic transformation, your results are uniquely yours.

Yes, in many cases, brachioplasty can address both excess fat and sagging skin. If there’s unwanted fat contributing to the appearance of your upper arms, your surgeon may include liposuction during the procedure to achieve a more sculpted and balanced result. Your surgical plan is always personalized, so we’ll assess what combination of techniques will help you reach your ideal outcome.

Liposuction removes excess fat from the arms, but it doesn’t address loose or stretched skin. Brachioplasty, on the other hand, focuses on removing sagging skin and tightening the upper arm for a firmer contour.

If you have good skin elasticity and only mild fullness, liposuction alone may be enough. But for many people, especially after significant weight loss or aging,a combination of both techniques offers the most natural, refined result.

Most patients take about 1 to 2 weeks off work, depending on the nature of their job and how their body responds to surgery. If your work is physically demanding, especially involving heavy lifting or repetitive arm motion, you may need additional recovery time.

As with any surgical procedure, brachioplasty does come with potential risks, including infection, scarring, swelling, changes in sensation, or asymmetry. That said, when performed by an experienced surgeon and supported by a skilled care team, the risks are greatly minimized. We prioritize your safety at every stage and we’ll talk through everything in detail so you can make an informed decision.
